Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
What is VITA?
The Volunteer Income Tax Income (VITA) is an IRS program that provides free income tax preparation to low-income, students, the elderly, non-residents, and limited English proficiency individuals.
Filing Taxes
Get your tax returns prepared at the CSU Long Beach VITA site. IRS-certified tax preparers can assist you in preparing both federal and state tax returns.
The Facts
Our CSU Long Beach College of Business VITA program is available to qualifying taxpayers with an income level of $67,000 or less. Our Team has refunded over $1,200,000 in taxpayer dollars last tax season.
Necessary Items
- Photo ID:
- Government-issued photo ID for you and your spouse (e.g.,
driver's license or passport).
- Government-issued photo ID for you and your spouse (e.g.,
- Social Security or ITIN Documents:
- All family members should have an original Social Security card or ITIN document. (physical copy)
- Income Forms:
- All W-2 forms from employers.
- 1099 forms for other income.
- 1098 forms for mortgage interest or educational expenses.
- Additional Income and Expenses:
- Information on any other income or deductible expenses.
1098-T form for tuition fees, if applicable.
- Information on any other income or deductible expenses.
- Daycare Expenses:
- Information from your daycare provider: address, phone
number, and ID number (Social Security Number or Employer
Identification Number).

- Direct Deposit:
- The bank account and routing number are used for direct deposit refunds.
- Previous Tax Return:
- Last year's tax return (helpful but not required).
- For ITIN Applications:
- SSN Rejection Letter (if applicable).
- Passport (required for ITIN application).
- If no passport: USCIS photo ID, U.S. visa, or U.S. driver’s license
with supporting documents.
Tax Preparation Options
- We offer face-to-face and virtual (Zoom) services. You can choose from walk-ins, appointments, and drop-offs.

Hours of Operation
- January 27, 2024 - April 9, 2024
- Monday - Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Services are first-come, first-serve. Appointments will be prioritized. The last client will be accepted at 7:00 pm from Monday to Thursday and 1:30 pm on Friday.
- Closed for some Spring Break from Monday, March 31 - Sunday, April 6

- Zoom Appointments Only: Mon - Weds from 12 PM - 4 PM

- Masks are required for all clients. Free masks will also be provided to those without one.
