Faculty Equity Advocates

The Faculty Equity Advocates  (FEAs)  serve as an advocate for Search Committees to recruit, interview, and recommend new faculty who share ºÚÁÏÍø values of equity, inclusion, diversity, and educating a diverse study body. The Faculty Equity Advocates (FEAs) for the College of Health and Human Services are Dr. Roudi Roy and Dr. Alex Washington.

Dr. Roudi Nazarinia Roy is an Associate Professor of Child Development and Family Studies in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences and Faculty Equity Advocate at ºÚÁÏÍø, where she teaches courses on the Transition to Parenthood and Family Dynamics, Family Stress and Coping and Internships in Child Development and Family Life Education. Her research interests revolve around cultural influences on parental roles across the transition to parenthood and during early childhood, fatherhood engagement and Multiracial families. In addition to her numerous conference presentation and publications in peer-reviewed journals, she has co-authored a book on the Transition to Parenthood and most recently co-edited a book on Biracial Families. She serves on several editorial boards for journals focused on family scholarship and is a member of the National Council on Family Relations Board of Directors. Dr. Roy is a certified family life educator through the National Council on Family Relations and serves as a consultant and evaluator for community agencies serving diverse populations of families. As a Family Life Educator, she believes all families deserve access to information and support that can facilitate positive growth and development. Over the last 19 years, she has focused on supporting and studying families across the transition to parenthood and the early years of parenting.

Alaine O

Alaine Ocampo, Ph.D., CCC-SLPis an Associate Professor and the School-Based Internship Coordinator.  Dr. Ocampo attended ºÚÁÏÍø for her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Communicative Disorders (currently Speech Language Pathology). She received her doctoral degree from Chapman University in Education with an emphasis in Disability Studies.  Prior to joining the ºÚÁÏÍø faculty, she was a school-based practitioner for students in grades TK-12 and also worked in the medical and private practice settings.  Dr. Ocampo has published in the areas of school-age language and literacy disorders, autism, cultural and linguistic diversity, and interprofessional education/practice.

Roles and Activities 

  • Assess and identify where units within CHHS currently stand with respect to the diversity of demographics of faculty (This will include interviewing directors/chairs of departments/schools, and/or Search Committee members.  The aim will be to better understand past and present search procedures, barriers, and challenges to recruiting, interviewing, and recommending new faculty who share ºÚÁÏÍø values of equity, inclusion, diversity, and educating a diverse study body)
  • Serve as a consultant to the Search Committees within CHHS on the search and the evaluation process; 
  • Monitor search processes and outcomes;  
  • Meet and coordinate with the ºÚÁÏÍø Office of Faculty Affairs on issues of faculty diversity recruitment, hiring, and retention. 

  • Provide training to search committees on practices for being proactive in seeking a diverse applicant pool;  
  • Assess and monitor inequitable concerns over the lack of diversity and/or practices for diversifying the short pool of candidates;  
  • Monitor, develop, and implement faculty retention strategies, particularly focused on strategies to maintain equity and diversity among faculty.
