ࡱ> 574O Jbjbj3O3O H&Q%eQ%e+FF8)t$SVDDD^DDDD pN^D0)DpDDX<D()F Q: California State University, Long Beach Policy Statement 75-12 Implementation of Trustee-Approved Graduate Degree and Admissions Requirements (revised) The following recommendation of the Academic Senate, dated April 4, 1975, entitled Implementation of Trustee-Approved Graduate Degree and Admissions Requirements is approved as policy. Admission to Post-baccalaureate Standing: Unclassified. An applicant may be admitted as an unclassified post- baccalaureate student if the applicant satisfies the requirements of each of the following: (a) The applicant holds an acceptable baccalaureate degree earned at an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association, or has completed equivalent academic preparation as determined by the appropriate department and/or school and certified by the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research. (b) The applicant has attained a grade point average of at least 2.5 (B=3.0) in the last 60 semester units attempted which includes any postbaccalaureate credits completed. (c) The applicant was in good standing at the last college attended. Special Action: An applicant who does not qualify for admission under the provisions of (a) or (b) above, or both, may be admitted by special action if in the judgment of the appropriate faculty of the department/ school concerned there exists acceptable evidence that the applicant possesses sufficient academic, professional and other potential pertinent to her/his educational objectives to merit such action, as shown through aptitude scores, recent academic performance, and experiential background. For declared majors, departmental and school standards for special action will apply. Special action for undeclared majors will be determined by the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research. Admission to Post-baccalaureate Standing: Classified. An applicant who is eligible for admission to Post-baccalaureate standing: Unclassified may be admitted to classified post-baccalaureate standing for the purpose of enrolling in a particular postbaccalaureate credential or certificate program, provided that the applicant satisfies such additional professional, personal, scholastic and other standards, including qualifying examinations, as may be formally established for the particular program by the faculty of the appropriate academic area. Admission to Graduate Standing: Conditionally Classified. An applicant who is eligible for admission to Post-baccalaureate standing: Unclassified but who has deficiencies in prerequisite preparation which in the judgment of the department and/or school can be met by specified additional preparation, including qualifying examinations, may be admitted to an authorized graduate degree curriculum with conditionally classified graduate standing. Admission to Graduate Standing: Classified. An applicant who is eligible for admission to Post-baccalaureate study: Unclassified may be advanced to candidacy in an authorized graduate degree curriculum of the University as a classified graduate student if she/he satisfactorily meets the professional, personal, scholastic, and other standards for admission to the graduate degree curriculum, including qualifying examinations, as the appropriate department and school faculties shall establish, and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research may prescribe. Only those applicants who, in the judgment of the faculty concerned, show promise of success and fitness will be advanced to candidacy in graduate degree curricula, and only those candidates who continue to demonstrate a satisfactory level of scholastic competence and fitness shall be eligible to continue in such curricula. Academic Warning and Disqualification. For purposes of determining a student's eligibility to remain at the University both quality of performance and progress toward her/his objective shall be considered. Such eligibility shall be determined by use of grade points, grade point average, and progress points. The progress point scale shall be based on the grade point computation for letter grades and augmented by the assignment of two points per unit for the CR grade and no points per unit for the NC grade. A student who is enrolled in a graduate degree program in conditionally classified or classified standing shall be subject to academic warning if she/he fails to maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (grade of B on the five-point scale) in all units attempted subsequent to admission to the program. A student who is enrolled in any post-baccalaureate status other than in conditionally classified or classified standing shall be subject to academic warning if she/he fails to meet criteria established by the University. A graduate or post-baccalaureate student shall be subject to disqualification if while on warning she/he fails to earn sufficient grade points to be removed from warning status. Disqualification may be either from further registration in a particular program or from further enrollment at the campus as determined by appropriate department and/or school.
