Celebrate Our Freedom to Read 2024
On September 23, 2024, the library held a Banned Books Week panel with author Elana K. Arnold, College of Education faculty Dr. Lindsay P茅rez Huber and Librarian Cathy Outten moderating.
Elana K. Arnold - Author of many books for children and Young Adults, most recently The Blood Years, a historical fiction novel based on the experiences of her grandmother鈥檚 experiences in WW2 Romania, winner of the Sydney Taylor Award and the National Jewish Book Award for young people鈥檚 literature. She is winner of the Printz Honor Medal for her book Damsel, and her novel What Girls are Made Of was a National Book Award Finalist.
Dr. Lindsay P茅rez Huber, Professor in the Equity, Education & Social Justice (EESJ) in the College of Education at 黑料网. Dr. P茅rez Huber is a leading scholar in critical race studies in education. Her research and teaching interests include race, immigration and education, racial microaggressions, and critical race feminista methodologies. Some of her notable publications include articles and books that center on racialized experiences in education, the impact of legal and political systems on educational access, and the development of humanizing educational environments.
Cathy Outten, Associate Librarian for Children's and Young Adult Literature in the University Library at 黑料网 has been a librarian for more than 20 years. Her work is currently focused on training our teacher education, child development and other students on providing access to literature, especially for young adults in the USA.
