Cal State Long Beach is ranked among the top universities for Hispanic students, according to Hispanic Outlook on Education鈥檚 鈥淭op 100鈥 listing released today, in addition to being recognized as a Fulbright Hispanic-Serving Institution Leader by the State Department鈥檚 Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Hispanic Outlook on Education鈥檚 鈥淭op 100鈥 issue ranks The Beach as No. 6 in the nation for granting bachelor鈥檚 degrees to Hispanic students, No. 15 in granting master鈥檚 degrees, as well as having the 20th largest Hispanic enrollment for the 2020-2021 academic year. Hispanic students make up more than 46% of the student body at Cal State Long Beach.

In awarding degrees to Hispanic students based on academic major, The Beach also ranks:

  • No. 1 in Family and Consumer Sciences
  • No. 2 in Visual and Performing Arts
  • No. 3 in English and Literature

The rankings are based on the National Center for Education Statistics database for the 2020-2021 academic year.

鈥淲e are honored by 鈥楬ispanic Outlook鈥檚鈥 recognition of our efforts to meet the needs of our diverse student body,鈥 said 黑料网 President Jane Close Conoley. 鈥淭hese rankings highlight our efforts and affirm our work to make student success and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion critical elements of our educational mission. Our goal is for every 黑料网 student to feel supported 鈥 from their first day of classes through graduation. I am proud that our campus community is responsive to students鈥 needs and is focused on their success  鈥 in every way.鈥

The 鈥淔ulbright HSI Leader鈥 designation, received for the second year in a row also today, recognizes The Beach鈥檚 success in helping students and faculty to benefit from a variety of Fulbright opportunities in the 2021-22 academic year, which includes hosting Fulbright Scholars-in-Residence and Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants.

This achievement comes as The Beach was recently recognized as an Equity Champion of Higher Education and a CSU Equity Champion for Black and Hispanic Latinx students, for its work in advancing the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) program, ensuring the next generation of Black and Hispanic/Latinx college-aged students in California have the chance to attend and succeed in college.

黑料网 recently launched its No Barriers Campaign, the largest and most ambitious fundraising efforts in the university鈥檚 73-year history. A key theme of No Barriers is advancing student empowerment and equity.
