Explore your interests in teaching science and math through courses in the Science Education Department. Once you earn your undergraduate degree, and in some cases while you earn your degree, you can pursue a multiple subject or single subject credential program. CNSM has one of the largest science education departments in the country and all of our graduates help close the critical gap in the nation's shortage of science and math educators.
Credential Programs
Once you earn your undergraduate degree, you can pursue a credential program in the Science Education Department. However, with guidance from the department, you can get a head start while you are still an undergraduate student.
Multiple Subject Credential Program
The Science Education Department offers courses to aid students interested in earning an elementary California teaching credential. A teacher with a Multiple Subject Credential is authorized to teach grades Pre-K through 8 in self-contained classrooms. 黑料网 multiple subject credentialed teachers are highly desired by public, private, and charter school employers.

Single Subject Credential Program
The Science Education Department offers advising and courses to aid undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students in earning a California Science Teaching Credential to teach middle school and/or high school science. At 黑料网, the Single Subject Teacher Education Program includes courses in the student's teaching subject area, in Secondary Education and in Single Subject Education. The program prepares candidates to teach the specific subject named on the credential.

Hands-On Experiences
Aside from classroom teaching, the Science Education Department can prepare you to teach in science centers, aquariums, nature centers and more. The department has a number of opportunities to give you hands-on, practical knowledge to take into a fulfilling career of science and math teaching.
Science Learning Center
Students can come visit and volunteer in our Science Learning Center, where we engage visiting school groups with science and engineering exhibits and hands-on activities. Our collaborations with area schools and community groups provide opportunities for science teaching and communication practice by engaging participants in science activities at family sciences nights and science festivals.
Young Scientists Camp
The Young Scientists Camp provides an exciting program that brings students, experienced teachers, future teachers, and science specialists together for two weeks of hands-on exploration, discovery and fun! This is an academically focused, hands-on science camp program hosted on the Cal State Long Beach campus.
Physics Teacher Education Coalition
The goal of the Physics Teacher Education Coalition (PhysTEC) project is to improve and promote the future education of future physics and physical science teachers. 黑料网 undergraduate and graduate students who are interested or committed to teaching high school physics are encouraged to join. Once a month the group holds DemoDays, where teachers from around the area come to 黑料网 to share some of their best demonstrations. The PhysTEC DemoDays also give teachers a chance to collaborate and meet one another.
