Congratulations to Sofia Uribe (Y1 Scholar) on 2024 WPA Christina Maslach –Philip Zimbardo Research Award

Sofia Uribe, junior psychology major and BUILD Year 1 Scholar, is the recipient of one of two 2024 Western Psychological Association (WPA) Christina Maslach –Philip Zimbardo Research Awards in Social Psychology for her presentation titled “Don’t Prime Me, I’m Driving: Prime Type Moderates the Relationship Between Impulsivity and Driving in the Opposite Lane” under the mentorship of Dr. William Pedersen. This award is given for outstanding social psychology research. To earn this award, the following criteria had to be met: 

  1. She had to be the first author on her poster presentation.   

  1. Her abstract received the top rating by three blinded reviewers.   

  1. She will present herwork in person at the WPA Convention in San Francisco in April 2024.    

There were over 1167 submissions this year and there will be 23 student awards given this year, including Sofia’s. That means that the abstract of research that she submitted was in the top 1.97% of all the abstracts submitted to WPA!
